Sonia Aïssa received her Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from McGill University, Montreal, QC, Canada, in 1998. Since then, she has been with the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (INRS-EMT), University of Quebec, Montreal, QC, Canada, where she is a Full Professor since 2010.
Professor Aïssa’s research focuses on the analysis and design of wireless communication systems and networks. She authored over 280 papers and received five Best Paper Awards and the 2012 IEICE Best Paper Award. She is the recipient of the NSERC University Faculty Award and of the Quebec Government FQRNT Strategic Faculty Fellowship.
She is the Founding Chair of the IEEE Women in Engineering Affinity Group in Montreal. Her editorial activities include Editor, IEEE Trans. Wireless Commun., 2004-2012; and Technical Editor, IEEE Wireless Commun. Magazine, 2006-2010.
She currently serves as Technical Editor for the IEEE Commun. Magazine. Her service in conference organization includes acting as TPC Lead Chair or Cochair of the Wireless Communications Symposium of ICC four times, as Track Cochair in WCNC’07,
TPC Cochair of VTC-S’13, and Symposia Cochair of GC’14. Professor Aïssa is active in ComSoc Technical Committees, has been a member of GITC, the committee that oversees the technical content of ICC and GLOBECOM since 2011, and is a Distinguished Lecturer of ComSoc. She is serving as elected Member-at-Large of the ComSoc Board of Governors.
